Past Indefinite tense

This Tense expresses an action that has happened or a state that previously existed like present Tense, Past Tense can also be classified into following four parts:
(1) Past Indefinite (Simple Past)
(2) Past Continuous (Past Progressive)
(3) Past Perfect
(4) Past Perfect continuous

Past Indefinite (Simple Past)
This Tense is used to express an action that happened or finished in the past.

Structure:
The structure of sentence with singular/plural subject remains same in Past Indefinite Tense
For Singular:
For Plural:
=> (For Singular/ For Plural) = Sub + V2 + Obj. (Affirmative)
For Ex - She wrote a book.
=> Sub + Did not + V1 + Obj. (Negative)
For Ex - She did not write a book.
=> Did + Sub + V1 + Obj + ‘?' (Interrogative)
For Ex - Did she write a book?
=> Did + Sub +not+V1 + Obj + '?' (Interrogative - Negative)
For Ex - Did she not write a book?

Uses:
1. To Show a past action.
For Ex –
(a) I wrote a letter yesterday.
(b) She came last week.
Note: Following words are used in Past Indefinite Tense.
"a day before Yesterday, ago, last, the other day, the day before, etc."
2. To show a past habit.
For Ex
(a) I played cricket in my childhood.
(b) She always prayed to God.
3. This Tense is used in conditional sentences to indicate a condition which is unlikely to occur.
For Ex –
(a) I wish I knew singing.
(b) If Ravi came we would congratulate him.
4. With the phrase
For Ex-
(a) It is time you repaired the A/c.
(b) It is about time you got a haircut.


Some past indefinite  sentences:-
1. The sun shone brightly yesterday.
2. My friends saw the Prime Minister last week.
3. Our servant left us two weeks ago.
4. She never told a lie.
5. Gandhiji always spoke the truth.
6. It is an hour since the train left.
7. He is making mischief since he entered the room.
8. When my grandmother was alive, she fed sparrows early in the morning yesterday.

2. I don't know him because I .................. (never meet) him.
3. I……………… (come) to this town in 1980.
4. Two convicts ………………. (escape) from prison last night.
